This term we will be learning all about alternative fairy tales and traditional tales. The children will developing their story telling skills and learning about fairy tales in other areas of their learning. Also this term we have an Environmental Week on the week beginning 18th June in which the children will be writing letters to the local residents to ask what they would like to do with local unused land and then design their own ideas. We will also be visiting our local church and going on a nature walk around our school.
Quite a lot of you have purchased Maths Packs now for your child and we hope they are enjoying using them at home.
The Maths Packs are still available to purchase for £5 each, we feel this is a great price to help your child with Maths at home and they receive a great range of resources which we also use in the classroom, e.g. place value cards, clock, number fans, 100 square, dice, cards and lots of activities and other resources.
This term we are focussing on the following in Maths.
Division problem solving- Word problems about fairy tale characters involving sharing e.g. If Goldilocks has 12 jars of honey how many would each of the 3 bears get?
Time - Learning o'clock and half past then moving onto quarter past and quarter to and completing a day timetable linked to What's the Time Mr Wolf.
Data - Pictographs and tally charts for things found in our area.
Weight- Weighing different quantities linked to Jack and the Beanstalk and the weight of the gold coins.
Measuring - Measuring length and problem solving involving length linked to Cinderella and her shoe size.
Money - Paying for items, recognising coins, counting in twos, fives, tens using coins.
and continuing with number work, addition, subtraction etc weekly in Big Maths.
This term we will be continuing to take the children swimming. They have all listened really well and enjoyed their first swimming lesson. Please remember to send your child with a names bag containing a towel and their swimming costume/shorts. They can bring goggles if needed.

This term the children will be taking part in Sports Day on the 21st June. This will begin at a later time this year of 2.10 and the children will rotate around 6 different activities. We look forward to seeing you there to support the children.
Your child's reading books will be changed weekly and some children will receive word envelopes to help them to learn high frequency words. Please read with your child as regularly as possible and re-read the books to develop understanding, confidence and fluency.
Please sign their reading diary weekly so we know your child is continuing their reading at home. Thank you.
Also remember our reading stars challenge and encourage your child to collect a blank book review and complete it about one of their own books they have read at home and return it to school.
