Welcome to my new class they have all settled really well this week and have quickly learnt the new routines.
This term our topic is all about myself and my senses. We will be learning all about ourselves and our bodies. Each week will have a different focus based upon our senses. We will be using stories to enhance our learning e.g. Oliver's Milkshake, Funny Bones. We will also be incorporating Autumn into this topic and looking at Autumn changes and preparing for our Harvest Festival. Later on this term we will be having an Arts Week and the children will have lots of opportunities to explore lots of art activities.
The Maths Packs are still available to purchase for £5 each, we feel this is a great price to help your child with Maths at home and they receive a great range of resources which we also use in the classroom, e.g. place value cards, clock, number fans, 100 square, dice, cards and lots of activities and other resources.
This term we are focussing on the following in Maths.
Counting - Matching the correct amount to each number. Recognising 2 digit numbers and number formations.
Shape- Learning about 2D and 3D shapes and naming them. Creating patterns using shapes.
Sorting - Sorting a range of items and recording their data.
Data- Creating block graphs and pictographs based on data they have collected
Measuring - Measuring length and problem solving involving length linked to our bodies.
Problem Solving- Do the biggest hands hold the most cubes? Do the longest legs jump furthest? etc.
and continuing with number work, addition, subtraction etc weekly in Big Maths.
Well done to all the children reading their reading books regularly this is noticeable in your child's progress with their reading. Their books will be changed weekly and some children have received word envelopes to help them to learn high frequency words. Please read with your child as regularly as possible and re-read the books to develop understanding, confidence and fluency.
Also don't forget our reading stars we have in the classroom and encourage your child to collect a blank book review to complete. The children are responsible to getting these independently and showing them to me in the morning.
Please sign their reading diary weekly so we know your child is continuing their reading at home. Thank you.
