Hope you all had a great break for the Christmas holidays!
This term we will be learning all about toys. We will be learning about different categories of toys e.g. outdoor, quiet, games, construction etc. We will be looking at what toys are made of and how this has changed over time and why. The children will be learning about toys from the past and how and why they are different to toys they play with now. They will be learning about different toys that different ages play with and why and we have a fantastic book to focus on later in the term about an action hero.
We might ask the children on specific weeks to bring certain toys in if they have any at home, e.g. babies toys, old toys etc.
Quite a lot of you have purchased Maths Packs now for your child and we hope they are enjoying using them at home.
The Maths Packs are still available to purchase for £5 each, we feel this is a great price to help your child with Maths at home and they receive a great range of resources which we also use in the classroom, e.g. place value cards, clock, number fans, 100 square, dice, cards and lots of activities and other resources.
This term we are focussing on the following in Maths.
Multiples - counting objects in multiples of 2s, 5s, and 10s. e.g. 2+2+2 = 6

and continuing with number work, addition, subtraction etc weekly in Big Maths.
Miss Chandler a student teacher will be teaching the children alongside myself this term. She will be with us till 23rd February and has already formed excellent relationships with the children and they are enjoying having her teach them.
Well done to all the children reading their reading books regularly this is noticeable in your child's progress with their reading. Their books will be changed weekly and some children have received word envelopes to help them to learn high frequency words. Please read with your child as regularly as possible and re-read the books to develop understanding, confidence and fluency.
Also don't forget our reading stars we have in the classroom and encourage your child to collect a blank book review to complete. The children are responsible to getting these independently and showing them to me in the morning.
Please sign their reading diary weekly so we know your child is continuing their reading at home. Thank you.
