Class 6

Welcome to Elm Class 6
Miss Cooper

Our topic this term is Toys

Well done to the class for their excellent behaviour on our school trip to Tullie House. The children enjoyed their time there they got to have a turn playing with old moving toys, outdoor toys, dressing up and puppets and even got to make their own toys.

This term our topic is all about Toys. We will be learning all about old and new toys, the difference between babies, toddler and children's toys, how toys have changed over time and the reason why and looking at lots of the different toys and how they work. Our key text this term is Traction Man.

This term we are focussing on the following in Maths.
Counting - Counting in multiples, counting forwards and backwards to help support addition and subtraction

Shape- Learning about 2D and 3D shapes and naming them. Creating patterns using shapes.

Money - Paying for items and learning about change.

Weighing- Using the balances to accurately weigh items, looking at which is heavier/lighter.

Measuring - Measuring length and problem solving involving length linked to toys.

Part-Part-Whole model- to help us with addition and subtraction and finding the difference.

and continuing with number work, addition, subtraction etc weekly in Big Maths.

The children have received new homework folders, please make sure you are reading with your child five times a week and record this in their reading record. Also please complete the 5 a day activity on doodle maths. This is a quick activity to help understand what areas your child needs support in and will adapt according to their answers so please try to let your child complete this themselves so the results and future learning can be accurate.

Well done to all the children reading their reading books regularly this is noticeable in your child's progress with their reading. Their books will be changed weekly and some children have received word envelopes to help them to learn high frequency words. Please read with your child as regularly as possible and re-read the books to develop understanding, confidence and fluency.

Also don't forget our reading stars we have in the classroom and encourage your child to collect a blank book review to complete. The children are responsible to getting these independently and showing them to me in the morning.
Please sign their reading
diary weekly so we know your child is continuing their reading at home. Thank you.

Each week we are hoping to go to the woods for part of the childrens learning. This will be weather permitting and providing we have enough parent help. We will need 3 parent helpers on Friday at 1.15 to go do our learning in the woods.
A sign up sheet is up and ready to sign up for this term. Thank you.

Don't forget a waterproof coat on Fridays and wellies which can be left at school on Class 5 shoe rack.

We have P.E on a Friday morning
in which we will be practicing our ball skills. We also have P.E on a Thursday afternoon with gymnastics coach Bridget Foster.
Please make sure the children have a white t-shirt, shorts and trainers or plimsolls in school with their name in them.

We have Parents Evening on the 16th and 17th October for a chance to discuss how your child has settled in and their targets and goals. However if you have any concerns or questions feel free to come and see me at the end of the day.

Thank you

Miss Cooper
