Potatoes

We have been part of the Grow Your Own Potatoes scheme again this year in class 1 and this year's class has had another successful and fun year of growing. We started by chitting Rocket and Athlete varieties of potatoes on our windowsill for two weeks, planting in the black bags (near the lane fence), and the children have looked after them really well, remembering to water them when we had no rain that day (very rare!) and topping up with compost each week. Today we got to harvest them and the children - no surprise - loved searching around in the mud amongst all the minibeasts that had taken up home in with the potatoes. We got a good crop and today we washed, peeled and boiled them to eat with cheese and butter. We have so many that next week we have enough to make soup as well.
