PHSE
Intent
Personal, Social, Health and Economics education perfectly connects their emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development. It helps to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active, responsible citizens. At Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum. In doing so they learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.
Aims
Our aim is to promote spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils. We will prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We will
- Encourage pupils to value themselves and others and to develop feelings of self-respect, confidence and empathy
- Allow pupils to acknowledge and appreciate difference and diversity
- Teach the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law including mutual respect and tolerance
- Teach pupils how to make informed choices
- Prepare pupils to be positive and active members of a democratic society
- Teach pupils to understand what constitutes a safe and healthy lifestyle
- Build an awareness of trusted adults in and out of school and who they can talk to if they feel worried.
- Provide pupils with a toolkit for understanding and managing their emotions
- Provide pupils with the opportunities to consider issues which may affect their own lives and/or the lives of others
- Promote safety in forming and maintaining relationships
- Help pupils to identify the characteristics of healthy relationships, how relationships may affect mental and physical health; and how to stay safe online
- Promote the importance of health and hygiene
- Create a positive culture around issues of sexuality and relationships
- Teach pupils the correct vocabulary to describe themselves and their bodies

Implementation
Curriculum
Throughout the year we plan lessons and opportunities for the children to explore the PSHE curriculum. Our PHSE curriculum is My Happy Mind.
Early Years and KS1
Our core PHSE scheme is My Happy MInd.
myHappymind Plus is made up of 3 core content pillars which run alongside the myHappymind core programme:
myHappymind – Core programme
•myHappybody - Section 1: Relationships (Sex) and Health Education (RSHE)
•myHappyrelationships - Section 1: Relationships (Sex) and Health Education (RSHE)
•myHappyworld - Section 2: Economic Wellbeing and Careers Education
By using myHappymind Plus, our school is compliant with the Statutory Guidance for Relationships Education. Additionally, the programme also teaches non-statutory PSHE objectives, providing a well-rounded curriculum.
We have also introduced our 'Kingmoor Shop' to help teach children Money Sense. This is linked to our Ethos and Happy Habits.

Enrichment
We enrich our PSHE curriculum through cross curricular links including strong links to mental health. Assemblies and closely linked to PSHE and our weekly celebration assembly gives children an opportunity to share their success and feel a sense of achievement. We also have an achievement wall and recognise children’s achievements outside of school on our school newsletter. We offer Relax Kids sessions for some children in school to develop their emotional resilience.
