Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School has a varied and rich curriculum where the children learn whilst having fun. We have a topic themed approach accross the school and also enjoy creating themed enrichment weeks where there is a focus on one curriculum area, interest or topical event e.g. World Cup Week
Maths is one of the key parts of the primary curriculum. At Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School we aim to give the children
  • Confidence and enjoyment of mathematics
  • A firm understanding of the basic mathematical skills.
  • A solid foundation upon which they can build as they move on through their education.
  • A good mathematical knowledge base and essential skills that remain important throughout their life.

At Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School we aim to deliver maths in as wide a variety of ways as possible, so as to make it accessible by all the children we teach. We use Maths everyday both taught in Maths lessons but also in context e.g. as part of our topic. This allows for the learning of specific mathematical knowledge and skills and also for being able to apply them during problem solving when putting mathematical questions into a real life contexts. In all year groups we link maths skills across the curriculum, for example drawing on maths learning in whilst cooking or in PE lessons by measuring the distance of a jump.
Children have opportunities to work across a wide range of mathematical skills, including calculations, number, shapes, measures and data handling.
We have a wide range of resources that all of the teachers can access to support the teaching of maths and particularly encourage practical aspects of mathematics.
We make great use of the computing equipment  and  electronic interactive resources, as well as more traditional ‘standard’ equipment.
Maths is a skill for life, and we are proud to be able to guide your children’s early development in this important area.
