Year Two Home Learning Page
We will be regularly updating this page with new ideas for you to do at home. All staff working in Year 2 and across the school would like to say we hope you are all keeping healthy and safe and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. Thank you again for your continued support. You are welcome to print any resources attached if you have access to a printer. Please feel free to have a go at as many activities as possible, photograph and upload your results onto Tapestry if you would like us to see your work!
Suggested timetable for home learning:
You will find this week's home learning below. Please see the 'Home Learning Plan' for information on daily tasks for maths, literacy and other subjects. If your child is finding some of the learning tasks a little tricky, adult support would be beneficial. You can go through the home learning at your own pace and work together. If you need additional support with this, please ask your child's class teacher on Tapestry.
If your child is confident with the home learning tasks you could extend their learning by;
- Using their knowledge to solve problems in new contexts - using the Maths 'Problem Solving Challenges' PowerPoint below.
- Asking your child questions about how they have reached their answer or ask them to justify their reasons for an answer.
- Asking your child to teach someone else what they have learned.
You will also find Pick & Mix tasks below. These are optional tasks that your child may wish to complete.
We hope you enjoy the home learning. We would love to hear all about your learning at home on Tapestry so please keep us updated.
Supporting your child's wellbeing.
In the wellbeing menu below you will find some ideas of ways that you can support your child's wellbeing at home through fun and relaxing activities.
Problem of the Day
Horrid Hands and Super Sneezes
This is a booklet and activity pack all about staying safe and the importance of washing hands carefully. There are a range of practical activities that you can try at home with your child and some fact sheets, quizzes and fun worksheets.
Talk for Writing
Talk for Writing has produced a Literacy booklet which your child can do either independently or with an adult. The activities in the booklet are all based on a story and there are three to choose from. As well as reading the story there are opportunities to draw, create, play with words and read and write poetry.
Continue to read at least 5 times per week and record this in your reading record (this can be your school books or books from home of any genre).
For those of you with a Nessy login, please continue to use it for 20 minutes every day. Remember, Nessy is an independent job and you need to do it without the help of an adult so it can give you lessons at the right level.
Questions to think about when reading:
-What type of book is it? Fiction or non-fiction? How did you know?
-What are some of the main features of a non-fiction text?
-Who is your favourite character?
-How does the main character feel at different points in the story? How do you know?
-What adverbs has the author included?
-What do you think will happen in the next part of the book?
The world of David Walliams is releasing an audio story from The World's Worst Children every day for the next 30 days! Visit the link below to see the story available today!
Parents can now create a free account to access Oxford Owl. It is what we use for our phonics lessons. On here you can access reading books based around phonics and the sounds the children know, (the colour of the books on Oxford Owl don't link with the colour of the book band books your child receives from school, please message your child's teacher on tapestry to find out what level book they should be reading if you are unsure.)
More books are added weekly so you could read these books alongside your child's reading books to keep up their great reading. These books also come with comprehension questions to help with your child's understanding of what they have read.
You need to register as a parent on the website to be able to view the e-books for all phonics levels (this is free to do).
