Our Vision, Ethos and Strategic Direction

Our school is like an oak tree

Our school is like an oak tree 1

Roots give the tree a strong base from which to grow and develop. Roots represent our ethos and values – the way the whole school community – staff, children, parents and carers, and the community – behave towards each other which provides the secure foundation upon which the school can grow.

The leaves and fruit – the acorns – represent our vision for the school and the development of the children. Our vision is like an acorn which is the outcome of the tree’s labour with all the potential that is held in an acorn for growth and development. Our vision describes what the school should look like and what the children will leave the school having achieved.

The trunk of the oak tree provides the core direction of the tree. Branches are the framework on which grow the leaves and on which the acorns are produced. Trunk and branches represent our strategic direction and long term plan to get to where we want to be over the next five years and to secure our vision. Branches are like the structure of our governing body and staff committees through which the plan will be acted upon and monitored to achieve our vision.
