FAQ's

What happens at the start of the school day?

We open the classroom doors at 8.45am so the children come in and get ready to start their day at 8:55am.

Settling your child into school at the start of the day is very important and we aim for this to be as relaxed and smooth as possible. We will encourage you to bring your child into the classroom and help them hang up their coat and bag in the cloakroom.

Each day children choose a coloured sticker to indicate their lunch choice. Orange stickers indicate a hot lunch and green stickers are for a sandwich. You may like to discuss the menu with your child before school then support them with selecting the sticker.

At 8.55am the children sit together on the carpet to say ‘Good Morning’ and the teacher completes the register.

If your child is late coming into school or has an appointment during the school day please come to the main school reception to drop off or collect as the gates will be locked in the playgrounds.

What happens at the end of the day?

The school day finishes at 3.25pm. To ensure that each child goes home safely we ask parents to wait in the playground. The teacher will let each child go directly to their parent one at a time. This can take a few minutes so please be patient.

If your child is being collected by anyone else, please inform the teacher or teaching assistant or contact the school office so we know who to look out for.

What does my child need for PE?

  1. child will have 2 PE sessions per week. Children will change for PE and will need a plain white t-shirt and black shorts together with plimsolls or trainers. These can be left in school in their PE bag. All items of clothing and the bag itself must be named.

Staff are on hand to help children get dressed for PE if they get in a muddle but we expect most children to try and have a go at getting changed by themselves.

What happens if my child loses something?

In the first instance you should check your child’s PE bag and cloakroom area when you collect your child from school. It is often easier to find things when the cloakroom is empty. Please also ask your child’s teacher or the teaching assistant to help you. Lost property items are kept within the cloakroom area or in the main lost property box which is in the school hall. Please feel free to ask the staff to help you.

Losing things is very common in school so please help us to help you by labelling all your child’s clothing and shoes.

Uniform

All additional items such as new jumpers, replacement book bags and PE bags can be purchased from the school office every day from 8am until 4pm. ‘Nearly New’ uniform is available in school. All we ask is a donation to school fund.

Can my child have a snack at school?

We are part of the National Fruit Scheme so each child is given a fresh piece of fruit during morning snack time along with a drink of water or milk.

We also feel it is very important to keep your child hydrated whilst in school so would ask parents to send their child with a named bottle of plain water to have throughout the day. These bottles should be taken home each day.

What happens at lunchtime?

All children have their lunch in the school hall. There are currently 2 sittings for lunch with children on second sitting enjoying some fresh air and games in the playground first before their lunch.

All children are provided with a free school meal each day. There is always a choice of a hot meal or a sandwich and a pudding.

Please let us know if your child has any allergies or requires a vegetarian meal.

Can I help in school?

We encourage parents to help in school where possible with things like library days, school outings, listening to children read etc. Once your child has started in school, you will be given more information about this.
