Fostering independence

‘Fostering independence through self-service stations.

We have a variety of self-service stations within our setting to support children’s independence. One of the most popular being our Self-Service dough area. Where children can follow the pictorial instructions to create their own dough.

We ensure our children have a wide variety of measuring cups of different sizes and capacities so that they can make a small amount of dough for one person or a larger amount for a group of friends to share.

We don’t provide children with playdough cutters and instead opt for tools such as forks, clay tools, knives, textured items to make imprints and loose parts. Through a wide range of multi-use tools and resources our children gain opportunities to explore far beyond a cookie cutter.’
