Reception
Welcome to Reception at Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School
Starting school is an exciting time for you and you child. Here at Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School we have a wealth of experience and will help you and your child feel comfortable and confident settling into new routines. Our staff are here to help and we can carefully plan the transition into school to make sure that we support you in the right way.
My child attends Kingmoor Nursery
As your child is in our Nursery they will already be familiar with many of our Reception Unit staff, buildings and routines. We have already introduced our Blue school uniform into our Nursery role play. Over the final half term children will be able to visit the reception unit and, when classes have been agreed, meet their new teacher. We will then continue with a series of activities in the summer and September designed to help you get all the information you need your child feel comfortable and ready to start their learning journey at Kingmoor.
My child doesn't attend Kingmoor Nursery
Please don't worry as we have groups of children joining us from around 12 different nurseries. Over the summer term our staff will contact your child's nursery and talk to them about your child, their interests and let us know how we can best support your child starting school. You will be invited to bring your child to school for a stay and play (or Zoom depending on COVID) session in July where they can meet some of the other children and staff. We will then continue with a series of activities in the summer and September designed to help you get all the information you need your child feel comfortable and ready to start their learning journey at Kingmoor.

When | What will happen |
Early June | You will be provided with a booklet which will give you all the information you need to know about starting school at Kingmoor Nursery School, including how to order uniform, how to provide us with medical information about your child and details of what happens during the school day. |
June | We will hold a parents meeting ( in person/virtually or a mixture) where you can meet the staff, hear about the curriculum, early learning and other bits of useful information. |
Mid June | You will be provided with a log in for our online community Tapestry. On here your child's teacher will begin to send you messages, introduce themselves, share videos for you and your child and provide any other information you may need. Please also complete the section called "All about me" about your child so that we have lots of information to help us plan the best possible start to school for your child. |
July | We use the information from you and our feeder nurseries to agree our classes. As soon as we have sorted out our class lists you will be told which class your child will be in and children will be either invited into school for a session or during their nursery session they can go to Reception to meet their new teacher. |
Sept | In September you will be offered a time for a Home Visit. This is so that staff can meet your child in their home environment where they feel safe. It is in an important part of building relationships and will help your child feel more comfortable when they start school. |
Please do also take the time to watch our Virtual Tour of the School

Once you know which class your child will be in there will be videos shared on Tapestry and on the website for your child to see their own classroom and the wider Reception Unit.
Tapestry
You will soon receive a log in email for Tapestry. This is our online Learning Journal and is used to share information and celebrate achievements. Please do sign up as soon as you receive the email as we will be using this platform to share information before your child starts with us.
There is an All About Me section, we would be grateful if you could take the time to complete this so we can get to know all about your child as soon as possible.
